Kids' Fashion: Let children choose what they want to wear

The Advent

I am a part-time teacher by profession. Every time I walked into my class, I find that kids are dressed in their best. Initially, I would assume that these kids hailed from rather affluent backgrounds and are well-heeled. But I was in for a surprise when I happened to interact with a few parents who told me that these kids were brazenly voiced their concerns on fashion and knew exactly what they wanted.   BananiVista, kids fashion Let your kids fly in style

The Cause

It later occurred to me that kids are very exposed to the whims of social media, and hence they tend to nurture their tastes according to changing times. They use the available content to their advantage to make their choices. India comprises of a youth inclined population. The kids wear segment accounts for an approximate 20% of the total apparel market. There is a staggering growth rate as recorded in 2017. The mark notched to a whopping Rs. 66905 crores (approximate). This is expected to grow at an approximate rate of 8.3% CAGR by 2027. The Kids apparel industry is considered even more promising that the women’s and men’s fashion industry.   BananiVista, kids fashion Make your kids look smarter

The Big Boom

The apparel industry has served as a prominent growth driver to the nation. This can be attributed to the dynamic culture that is rife with festivities. Another essential factor lies in the emergent modern youth that is fast going global. But the question still remains how has the kids' fashion industry suddenly entered the ranks of giving the Indian apparel industry its underlining presence?
  • Kids are more informed of their choices concerning fashion.

  • There is enough disposable income available since both parents are working. Which clearly explains why there is an undying need to groom kids' by desired fashion standards. Peer pressure cannot be overlooked.

  • Demonetization could have cut corners for aggressive spenders, but alternative spending options have bolstered the apparel industry supporting it and its ever-accentuating growth.

  • In terms of the market the presence, the kids range would comprise of apparel that is designed for age 0-14 years. Which also means that at such an age the kids grow really fast and have this incessant want to fashion themselves according to their physical structure and changing trends. Not to overlook wear and tear of the garment. This, in turn, implies that garments don’t last for more than a span of 4-6 months.

  • Owing to the above-mentioned factors prominent international brands of the likes of Burberry, Tommy Hilfiger and Lacoste have witnessed that venturing in the kids' fashion business could prove to be lucrative in more than ways.

  • This has also given prominent in-house Indian fashionists impetus to re-consider their inventory and incorporate a kid’s range. This, in-turn, has proved beneficial as parents are now seeking special father-son and mother-daughter style options. Local Indian apparel brands also see the profitability in venturing into the Kids fashion arena. This in turn has fashion for kids that cater to every single income group and a varied target audience.

  • The undying efforts of the E-commerce segment and its entrenched reach has definitely ensured steady growth of the industry at large.

End Note

As I key off I would only like to add that our nation pretty much thrives on the interest of the youth which is precisely why anything to do with the youth, will only not only help gain profits but will prove beneficial to and for the generations to follow.   For more interesting updates on Indian style and fashion, follow us on FacebookInstagram, and Twitter.
