Get rid of the toxins from your body by using these simple detox elixirs Unhealthy eating habits, pollution, and other external factors cause accumulation of toxins in our bodies. Detoxification is the process of eliminating these toxic substances. Detox drinks help to clear our system, lose weight and boost our immunity levels, reviving our bodies and helping us achieve a healthy balance. However, if we have any health concerns, it is always better to consult a doctor before embarking on any such detox program.   Some detox drink recipes are given below to help us start cleansing our bodies of toxins.
  • Lemon and Honey in Warm Water: drinks, bananivissta Lemon and Honey
A detox drink you can have every morning at the start of the day to keep your body limber and clean from within is a drink of lemon and honey in warm water.  This regularizes bowel movement, gets your system in the fat burning mode through improved metabolism, and removes toxins from the body to keep the digestive system healthy. Lemon has Vitamin C that helps protect cells from the damaging effects of free radicals. Honey has amazing bacteria-killing properties and is also an energy booster. It is a good replacement for white sugar as a source of energy. It is one of the detox drinks that not only detoxifies but also helps keep infections at bay. To make: Mix the juice of half a lemon and a teaspoon of honey in a glass of lukewarm water.
  • Ginger and Indian Gooseberry (Amla) Juice: drinks, bananivissta Gooseberry and ginger
Drinking a juice made from ginger and gooseberry in the morning is another great way to detoxify and heal the body. Ginger cleanses the body by stimulating digestion, circulation, and sweating. Ginger is anti-bacterial and has anti-inflammation properties, so it creates a healthier body system. Being a natural root, drinking it gives extra nutrients to the body. Indian gooseberry or amla is a powerhouse of nutrients, rich in Vitamin C and iron, plus other essential minerals. It clears the system and helps digestion; supports liver function and flushes out toxins, and is also great for maintaining healthy skin, hair, and eyes. According to Ayurveda, Indian gooseberry juice brings the body’s three doshas (vata, kapha, pitta) to equilibrium. To make: Take an inch long peeled ginger piece and two de-seeded Indian gooseberries and put in the blender with a glass of water. Strain the juice and drink it fresh. It is a strong and sour tasting juice but this early morning shot can go a long way in ridding your body of toxins.
  • Grapefruit and Pomegranate Juice: drinks, bananivissta Pomegranate and Grapefruit
Grapefruit has a high antioxidant level, specifically because of beta-carotene; and lycopene, another antioxidant. So it is great for detoxifying the body. Plus the hefty dose of Vitamin C and A that grapefruit contains is huge for immune boosting. Pomegranate juice contains high amounts of vitamin C, antioxidants, and healing properties which make it ideal for cleansing the body and excellent for increasing immunity. To make: Peel and put one grapefruit and one pomegranate through a juicer to get a glass of juice rich in antioxidants to detoxify your body. You can add some rock salt to taste.   You must keep in mind that the juice needs be freshly made. Processed juices contain harmful additives that negate our goal of removing unwanted and harmful substances from the body.   Detox rituals aim to rid the body of toxins over a period of time. As in all things, caution has to be undertaken when starting a detox program and a doctor’s go-ahead is necessary especially for those with existing health issues. Eventually you have to see what works for your body, but generally speaking, these drinks and juices help detoxify your system and make you feel clean from within.
