Gone are the days when the size of the kitchen said a lot about your affluence(or lack of it). It was the centre of the real action, laughter, friendly banter, gossips and much more. Huge pots and pans, 'martabans' filled with pickles and jams and our mothers and grandmothers working furiously at the stove.

With our spaces getting smaller and smaller, we hardly have the luxury of sprawling kitchens. We are always on the lookout for small kitchen design ideas. Here are a few tips and tricks that can hugely impact the layout of a small kitchen space

  • Interiors for a small kitchen: Keep it simple. If you have a small or tiny kitchen, keep the overall design and decor minimalistic. This will prevent the space seem too claustrophobic. A linear design, as well as light colors such as whites and greys, will give the illusion of more openness. Also, a U-shaped design will help maximise space.

  • Kitchen appliances: A good idea is to have a wall mounted oven to save on counter space. Other appliances such as mixers, juicers, toasters etc can be placed on rotating, pullout or foldable trays, which can be easily concealed when not in use. If possible, place large appliances like the refrigerator just outside the kitchen as it takes up a lot of space.
